- IDEA: In 1946, Viola Desmond was the first Black woman to fight segregation in court, after a segregated cinema incident in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. On the other side of the border, Rosa Parks said "No..." to segregation (injustice, bullying in school, on a bus or anywhere) by not giving up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama, sparking a citywide bus boycott―proving the Promethean theme that "to check power is honorable and on occasion, even necessary."
